I sent this poem to a friend and he wrote back: "It is courage or real prayer. The way we get closest to god without meaning to."
THE DEMONS ARE COMING

All of it
the going-through it,
without vacation
or detour;
the black light
clicking on
inside the skull;
the daunting over-
time the heart accumulates.
There is in us
an unutterable cry for help
so strong it is
indistinguishable
from courage.

At one time or another we all cry out because of one demon or another that besets us. Evil is alive in the world and the manifestation of its grip on individuals is universal. Thus the cry/prayer/plea/entreaty to some higher power to be free of it ...G/god help me.
